Pacific Institute Launches New Water and Climate Equity Strategy for United States

Throughout the world and in the United States, water insecurity and climate change both disproportionately affect frontline communities—those who are impacted first and worst from climate change. Historically disadvantaged and marginalized communities, including rural communities, low-income communities, and communities of color, often suffer the most from environmental injustices related to climate change and lack of safe and reliable water from household and community water systems.

July 11, 2022, Oakland, California – The Pacific Institute, a global nonpartisan water think tank working to catalyze the transformation to water resilience by 2030, today launched its new Water and Climate Equity strategy. Through research and outreach, this long-term strategy will address the impacts of climate change on water security for frontline communities, including rural communities, low-income communities, and communities of color, across the United States.

Ensuring Water Conservation and Efficiency Programs Are Accessible to All—In California and Beyond

Californians and others in the Western United States need to save water. This is true now amidst a historic megadrought, and it will continue to be true when this drought ends. But many water conservation and efficiency programs aren’t accessible to low-income households.

The water prize was one of six LABBC prizes awarded this week.

Changes in Avian Diversity and Abundance at the Salton Sea

The Salton Sea is one of the most important places for birds in North America and is in danger of losing its ecological value. The lake is a globally significant Important Bird Area (IBA). For the past century, it has served as a major nesting, wintering, and stopover site for millions of birds of approximately 400 species. At this webinar, speakers discussed changes at the Salton Sea and how they are affecting the Pacific Flyway, as well as management efforts to protect and restore habitat at the lake.
