Jason Morrison, President of the Pacific Institute, will speak at the first Annual Event of the UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate, hosted by the Global Compact Network Brazil, in São Paulo, Brazil on December 11th 2019. The CEO Water Mandate is a UN Global Compact initiative co-managed by the Pacific Institute that mobilizes business leaders on water, sanitation, and the Sustainable Development Goals. The half-day event will focus on the role of the private sector in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), and will highlight the top ten best SDG 6 practices of selected Brazilian companies.
The Annual CEO Water Mandate Event has several specific objectives. The first objective is to promote the engagement of Brazilian organizations with the 2030 Agenda, the CEO Water Mandate, and the UNGC Action Platform in Water Security through water stewardship. The event also seeks to provide the right tools for organizations to better promote SDG 6, with a focus on specific themes such as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and human rights, water efficiency and supply chains, the protection and restoration of ecosystems, and collective action. The final objective is to demonstrate how the UN Global Compact Network Brazil can help the Brazilian private sector incorporate SDG 6 in a valuable and meaningful way. To accomplish these objectives and to bring visibility to SDG 6 practices already underway, selected companies will be awarded the 2019 SDG 6 Best Business Practices Award at the event.
By bringing together water and sanitation specialists, the private sector, government, NGOs, and other organizations seeking to address water risks and sanitation challenges, this event will also aim to generate conversation about potential solutions to water and sanitation challenges currently faced by Brazil.
Two reports will also be launched at this event: a Portuguese version of Water Aid’s “Strengthening the Business Case for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene – How to Measure Value for Your Business” and a report on the award-winning ten best Brazilian SDG 6 company cases.
The event will take place on December 11th at Unibes Cultural, located at Rua Oscar Freire, 2500. Sumaré, São Paulo – SP, 05409-012.
