Dr. Peter Gleick, President Emeritus of the Pacific Institute, will moderate the panel on water, “Rising to the Challenge: Scaling Freshwater Solutions” at the 2019 Planetary Health Annual Meeting at Stanford University on September 5th, 2019. Director of Research Heather Cooley will speak on the panel.
The session will begin by quickly reviewing key underlying environmental and political drivers of water scarcity. Then, following short presentations by panelists, participants will break into groups to interactively discuss three components of scalable and sustainable solutions: engineering and technology-based approaches; “soft-path” strategies that include demand management and social, economic, and policy approaches; and nature-based solutions that integrate human and ecological water security challenges.
The conference is organized by the Planetary Health Alliance. Its primary goal is to focus on the solutions for the great planetary health crises that the world is currently facing.
The conference will take place from September 4th to 6th 2019 in Stanford, California.
