Overview

Water reuse provides a reliable, local water supply that reduces vulnerability to extreme conditions. It can also provide economic and environmental benefits by reducing energy use, diversions from rivers and streams, and pollution from wastewater discharges. Although water recycling and reuse is already practiced to some extent in many California communities, this report, produced in collaboration with the Natural Resources Defense Council, shows that widespread implementation of water reuse could have a significant impact on the state’s water footprint.
