April 30th, Oakland, California – The Pacific Institute is delighted to announced that Dr. Peter Gleick, Co-Founder and President Emeritus, is the winner of the 2019 BMI Prize for the Strategic Global Challenge of Fresh Water. The Prize is awarded by the Boris Mints Institute (BMI) for Strategic Policy Solutions to Global Challenges, part of the Gershon H. Gordon Faculty of Social Sciences at Tel Aviv University, and includes a $100,000 prize, which is given
to an exceptional individual who has devoted his/her research and academic life to the solution of a strategic global challenge, and whose research, public action, and ideas had transformative impacts on global policy formation and a proven contribution to the welfare of a significant number of communities worldwide.
The prize money is committed to an institute of the recipient’s choosing. Dr. Gleick has chosen the Pacific Institute as recipient of the 2019 prize funds. Twenty percent of these funds will go directly to support young research scholars.
Dr. Gleick said, “I’m thrilled to receive this honor from BMI, which recognizes the critical nature of our global water challenges and the progress that can be made by integrating research, strategic solutions, and innovative progressive policy. I look forward to continuing to work with the next generation of researchers and scholars to advance real solutions to water challenges.”
