New Pacific Institute Report Finds California Drought Worsening Long-Term Decline of Fish Populations  

Oakland, California — September 7, 2022 — The Pacific Institute released a new report highlighting how California’s current drought has threatened fish and their freshwater ecosystems. The report, “Left Out in Drought: California Fish,” finds warmer water temperatures, increasing algal blooms, and lower stream flows associated with the 2020-present drought have exacerbated the long-term decline of California’s fish populations and threatened the continued survival of some native fish species, many of which face extinction.

Pacific Institute Launches Water and Climate Equity Strategy for United States

July 11, 2022, Oakland, California – The Pacific Institute, a global nonpartisan water think tank working to catalyze the transformation to water resilience by 2030, today launched its new Water and Climate Equity strategy. Through research and outreach, this long-term strategy will address the impacts of climate change on water security for frontline communities, including rural communities, low-income communities, and communities of color, across the United States.

Pacific Institute-Led Water Efficiency Project Featuring Remote Toilet Leak Detection in Low-Income Housing Wins Los Angeles Better Buildings Challenge Award

Los Angeles, California — June 10, 2022 — A Pacific Institute-led water efficiency project that uses remote sensors to detect toilet leaks in low-income housing has been awarded the Water Industry Leader Award by the Los Angeles Better Buildings Challenge (LABBC). The LABBC’s “Best Buildings” Innovation Awards program identifies organizations demonstrating exceptional ingenuity in energy and water efficiency. The water prize was one of six LABBC prizes awarded this week.
