- Description:
-
- Abstract:
-
This dataset provides an estimate of the lengths of levees and seawalls that would need to built or fortified to protect development along the California coast from a 100-year coastal flood event with a 1.4 meter sea-level rise.
- Purpose:
-
To estimate the cost of building structures to protect from a 100-year coastal flood with a 1.4 meter sea-level rise.
- Supplemental_Information:
-
Required protection strucutures were estimated as "necessary" based on flooding extents, generated by the Pacific Institute and Noah Knowles (USGS/SCRIPPS), overlaid on high resolution aerial imagery (NAIP 2005). For the open coast, seawalls were deemed necessary; for bays and protected waterfronts levees were deemed adequate. All structures were assumed to be protected while agriculture was allowed to be flooded.
