Drinking fountains have been disappearing from public spaces over the past few decades. Could fountain-finding apps help bring them back? This blog post examines 27 Android and iOS drinking fountain mapping apps, identifying useful apps and suggesting “ideal features” for future apps that could make public drinking fountains more accessible.

Sweden’s Climate Action

While the U.S. faces an uncertain climate action future, Stockholm is pursuing the “climate holy grail”: a completely fossil fuel-free future. Through emissions reductions and efforts to recapture energy from waste and wastewater, as well as a commitment to renewable energy, the city aims to lower its CO2 emissions to only 2.3 tons per person by 2020 (by comparison, annual CO2 emissions in the U.S. are more than 16 tons per person).

In June, Abigail Warner and Gabriel Daiess joined the Pacific Institute under the Congressman George Miller Water Policy Leadership Grants Program. The goal of the program is to train the next generation of water, sustainability, environmental, and economic justice leaders through mentoring and experience building.

Drought and Water Equity in California 
Past Outreach 


On June 5, Senior Research Associate Laura Feinstein presented at the East Bay Municipal Utility District’s Engineers’ forum on Drought, Equity and the Human Right to Water, where she discussed equity concerns around water affordability in California, water shortages during droughts, and the impacts of water shortages on salmon fishing communities in the state.
