Yes, the California Drought Continues
 
Following a relatively wet winter and spring, California has lifted the state’s urban water restrictions. But the drought continues, with a shrinking snowpack, low reservoir levels in the south, and the overpumping of groundwater.

The extent of financial losses from water-related risks has dismayed the international investment community, which is responding with first-generation digital tools and financial models to better understand the economic consequences of drought, floods, pollution, and social unrest prompted by shrinking reserves of fresh water.

Matthew joined the Institute in 2007. “People throw around the word ‘sustainable’ a lot these days,” he says. “To me, it’s really simple: preserve our land and water and air for all the living things that depend on them, and for future generations.”

He will discuss the California drought’s impacts and offer drought solutions for public officials and the private sector.

On May 11, Corporate Sustainability Program Director Jason Morrison and Senior Research Associate Mai-Lan Ha held a meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka in conjunction with the  Global Compact Network Ceylon (GCNC) to explore the role of businesses in helping address the major water challenges facing Sri Lanka.
